Daktari Safari - with the Vets in the Wilderness
Fulfil your childhood dream of "Daktari", the "saviour of wildlife in Africa" and accompany a wildlife veterinarian in Namibia for a few days. Be there when the team will respond to any wildlife emergencies throughout Namibia and experience working with a variety of wildlife species ranging from Elephant, Rhino, Lion, Hyena and Leopard to smaller creatures like Pangolin, Dik-dik, Steenbok, Honey Badger.
The clinic is located on the premises of the Rare and Endangered Species Trust (REST) near the famous Etosha National Park. Here, too, you can play an active role if the local protégés such as the Pangolin Roxy, the Cape Vultures, the Honey Badger or the Owl have to be observed, fed and treated by the vet.
James, the head of the anti-poacher unit, will take you on patrol with his dog Puma, where you'll learn first-hand how the team protects our rhinos. Go on a walk with a local biologist and learn how the vegetation and wildlife are identified and which herbs are used for medicinal purposes.
You will monitor the wild animals and collect valuable data for research. Of course, you also have plenty of time for the best souvenir photos.
Just like the TV series Daktari, an emergency in the African wilderness is unpredictable and your time as a “holiday veterinarian” will be marked by many surprises. Maybe an elephant is trapped in a trap, a farm animal needs help or a group of Oryx has to be moved into a new reserve. It will definitely be adventurous and interesting.
You will stay in a beautiful safari lodge where you can cool off in the pool and indulge in good Namibian food. At the evening campfire there is time to relive the exciting events of the day. And with a good glass of wine you will certainly learn many exciting stories from the life of a wildlife veterinarian in Namibia.
The Daktari Safari is bookable from 3 nights and can be combined with a tour in the Etosha or a self-drive trip through Namibia. We will be happy to plan your tailor-made and transformational journey with you.
